Cardio
pad
There are several styles of interval cardio training that can be used depending on your current level of conditioning. The idea behind interval training is to perform a brief warm up of typically 3 to 5 minutes. Then, push yourself or continue exerting your effort until you become close to breathless for a brief lapse followed by a ‘rest’ period where you continue working, but in a much more subdued manner. Many trainers refer to these periods as ‘work’ or ‘rest’ periods as you alternate from one to the other. In both cases, you continue exercising, but ‘work’ is considered an all out effort and ‘rest’ is an effort close to a 50% output effort comparatively. As you can imagine, what is an all out effort for one person could be a moderate workout for another. It all depends on your current level of conditioning level. For a beginner or deconditioned person, a ‘rest’ period may be a comfortable walk on the treadmill. Their ‘work’ period would then be a power walk on a slight incline or even a slow jog.
