Restriction in the Neck and Shoulders Can Cause Unnecessary Head Movement
Some head movement throughout the golf swing is perfectly normal, but excessive head movement is not. A few of the common reasons for excessive movement with the head include poor body rotation, a tight mid back, and tight shoulders and/or neck muscles.
When the neck gets tight and is unable to rotate from side to side, most golfers will notice they have to move their head away from the ball during the backswing. As the golfer performs a shoulder turn, the head is unable to stay in place and must move away as a result. Once the club is off plane in the backswing, this leads to errant shots including hitting fat or thin shots.
If the head is moving up and down as opposed to away from the ball, it may be a balance issue or some tightness in the lower body. Performing the correct exercises and stretches in the correct order will improve your golf fitness and give you noticeable results quickly.
The Excessive Head Movement Golf Workout is a targeted workout to strengthen stabilizing muscles and loosen up tight areas, allowing golfers to get their body motion to a minimum. When the biomechanics are correct, the golf swing can just happen with no compensations needed.
The exercises and stretches in this program are performed in supersets. Begin by performing the number of repetitions for each exercise, then immediately move to the next exercise in the superset. After you perform one set of each exercise in the superset, rest 30 seconds, then repeat again. Once the superset is complete, move to the next superset.
