There are many reasons why the majority of all golfers of all ages should stretch. This includes taking time to properly warm up the body, prepare it for play and increase blood circulation and neuromuscular coordination.
Yet, the single most important reason why golfers really need to stretch is to increase range of motion in the muscles and joints that have the largest influence in how you swing the club. Whether we choose to admit it or not, flexibility or lack thereof, can have a tremendous impact on how we move in our golf swing. Where we find tightness in places like the shoulders, hips and mid back, we find restrictions in movement.
The ultimate outcome is to allow our bodies complete freedom of movement so we can swing the club the way we want to, not the way we’re forced to. Follow the Home Stretch Program daily and you should see a change in your range of motion while performing this stretch routine as well as changes in your range of motion in your swing. If you are extremely tight, you should stretch daily. Some golfers benefit from stretching twice daily with one 5 to 10 minute session in the morning and one 5 to 10 minute session in the evening.
