Muscles Used During Impact
pad
Many muscles that were active during the down swing remain very active in the impact stage. The tricep on the target arm contracts to extend the arm. The forearm extensor muscles on the non-target arm are uncocking the wrists. The pecs are actively accelerating the arms. The upper-back muscles including the lattimus dorsi act to stabilize and rotate the shoulder. The trunk muscles especially the rectus abdominis, are active in stabilizing the core and providing a key link in the transport of energy from the lower body to the upper body. The hamstrings, glutes and calf muscles are fully engaged in making the lateral weight ship needed for distance.
